Self-Care Strategies - Natural Ways to Care for your Body

Caring for your body can mean so much more than proper nutrition and exercise. While our physical health is immensely important, our mental health is perhaps even more important. After all, what good is optimal health unless you are happy and are truly enjoying your life? Self-care strategies are important to integrate into your life. Learning to care for yourself is about respecting your needs and understanding what things you can do to nourish your soul and promote peace and a sense of well-being.

​Ganban-Yoku

Surely you have heard of hot yoga and the benefits it brings. You've probably also known that saunas can be highly relaxing and peaceful. Ganban-Yoku is a practice that integrates some of the features of both and provides an incredible sense of relaxation. Ganban-Yoku involves lying on an anti-oxidant bed for approximately 45 minutes. The room is heated to a temperature of about 103 degrees Fahrenheit.

Users say that it helps them clear their head and find a sense of calm once inside. Unlike a sauna, you lay down during the practice and much like hot yoga, the room is heated and the practice is said to help the individual reach a state of meditation.

Meditation
Meditating can help you connect with your body and feel more at ease with yourself. It does this by teaching the individual to limit their thoughts and not respond to them emotionally. Many people have a hard time with their thinking and when negative thoughts occupy their head-space, they fall victim to allowing these thoughts to control their emotions. If they are experiencing anxiety, they allow these thoughts to persist and become repetitive. This only worsens the anxious feelings and results in more frustration.

​Meditation helps you learn to let these thoughts pass. By simply reverting back to the breath when you have a negative thought, you learn that negative thinking is a natural part of life and there's no need to let it become anything more. By practicing this regularly you will respond with less of an emotional reaction.

​Natural amino acids

There are some amino acids such as L-tryptophan, L-tyrosine and L-thianine that can promote feelings of relaxation and positivity. These are natural amino acids that are either produced in the body or received through proper nutrition.

You can try natural amino acids as an alternative to synthetic health products and pharmaceuticals. Sometimes these supplements can help you get out of a "rut" and overcome periods of your life where you feel less capable.


Exercise and nutrition
You've probably heard before that exercise releases endorphin's. However, it does much more than this and it can be a very powerful self-care strategy. As you exercise and eat right, you begin to notice the benefits and you gain confidence. Strength training, in particularly, builds confidence and helps you see yourself in a better light.

​As your body develops, you begin to make changes in other aspects of your life and your accomplishments through fitness and nutrition empower you.

​Antioxidants

An antioxidant is a substance that may prevent cell damage. Antioxidants benefit the body in a wide variety of ways and have proven to be effective for cancer and cardiovascular disease. Antioxidants can be found in many different foods, which is a less expensive way to consume antioxidants and if you're eating healthy, that means you're less likely to eat unhealthy.
